On the way to work the other morning Lily asks "Momma. Where is our beauty-full day?" To which I reply "Lily, it IS a beautiful day. It's just cloudy." Then she asks, "Where is da sun?" My answer: "It is hiding behind the clouds." Lily (getting a bit agitated): "Well, da cwouds need to move so we can see da sun. (Screaming out her window) MOVE CWOUDS! MOOOOVE!" I gently say, "Lily. I'm sorry, but that isn't going to work." So she adds, still with her head up against her window, "PWEEZE?!"
Lil has always been part sugar/part spice, and that is what makes her both a pleasure and a challenge to parent. Lately she will occasionally hit me. Well, I have NOOOO tolerance for this whatsoever. In the past when she has done something that I didn't approve of, I've simply pulled her aside to have a "chat" with her and that usually takes care of it. Well, I decided when she hit me that I needed a different method of discipline. So, I tried a "time out"...lotsa people do this, right? So, I made her go sit on my bed and told her I'd come back in a few minutes to see if she was ready to be a good girl. She resisted the first time I did it...she seemed to be distraught that I was upset with her. It broke my heart to hear her cry, but we both got over it and by the time I got back in there she had settled down and said she was ready to behave. So, it seems to be working. Actually, last night she was ignoring me and I said "Do you want to listen to me, or do you need a time out?" She answered "I need a time out." So, off we went. This time when I went back to get her she said "Tank you for giving me a time out mommy. I need to be a good wistener."
She is a singin' fool right now. Non-stop la la la'ing. And, it makes no difference to her if we are at home, or in the car, at the mall, or grocery shopping...she will sing at the top of her lungs. Her favorite tunes right now are "Bingo"...She starts it 'Old MacDonald had a dog and Bingo was his name-O...' and "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and she will sing all 3 verses, but they all end 'his fweece was white as snow'...
This afternoon she was at the kitchen table rearranging her 9 pennies to create different things. She kept making a "rocket ship" and a "comet" (a real space theme with her lately)...then she said "I need my puppy so I can be sweet" so I went and grabbed Spot for her. She began to pet and cuddle him saying "I'm so sweet with my puppy...I'm gonna show him my comet...(looking at Spot and pointing out her creation) Wook Spot, wook at my comet!" Then she looks over at me and says "He doesn't talk."
That's all for today's installment of Lil tidbits...hope she made you smile.

Hannah and Lily are going to have so much fun together next month. Hannah likes to sing the same songs, so maybe they'll put on a show for us! We've also been using the "time outs" and they do seem to work. Oh, and when it's a cloudy day, Hannah will say in a very sad voice "I never ever get to see my sunshine." Looks like they'll be two peas in a pod again ...
HOw precious is she?
What an adorable little girl!
Wish I could meet this darling little gal,she sounds like she is full of life.Never a dull moment.
Love it.....
Smilin' I am! You could definitely write a book, Nik! She's precious!
Those are some hard lessons to learn at any age!
Her tidbits ALWAYS make me smile...:-)
PS- I LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear kids singing....such a happy sound.
Oh I love it. You tell these stories about Lily perfectly. I totally know about the sugar and spice!!
she looks like a superstar in those glasses .... the time out is a good way to go for a spicy mood ... emily also doesn't like them but is very much a changed little one once her time is over ... good job MOM !!!
oh she ofcourse made me smile. She is a unique little sweetheart.
Seriously, I do not think she can be any cuter! And good for her to scream at the clouds, they should move!
HOW CUTE!!!!
LOVE IT!!!!
I love her comment about the clouds. She is so cute!
Oh, Nikki, the time out thing is just killing me (in a good way). It sounds like she knows when she's in a "mood" and not ready to behave and just needs a little time to gather herself back together. That's amazing!!
Nope she didn't make me smile, she made me cry with laughter!! Almost peed my pants (can I have a time out too please??? hehehe) I really don't know how you keep a straight face when you need to, guess I'll learn when Chynna is home!!
What a character! We use time out too, but our Lily never asks for it. That certainly is a new twist on things:) I love the picture below of Lily and her dad doing the lawn. Precious!

My girls some sugar, lots of spice, I love their spunk!!
Thanks for sharing.
Oh Nikki I cannot believe I am not going to meet her....boo hoo it is just so unfair.
Lily is adaorable, plain and simple. She must take after you!
SMILE??! That just MADE MY DAY. That last punchline had me rolling... "he doesn't talk". And I'm going to remember to say please to the clouds the next time I ask them to move so I can get a glimpse of the sun!
Can I borrow her for a week or so?? No time-outs. All fun. :O) (Glad they seem to be working though).
Precious :- )
Oh, your Lily melts my heart. I can't wait for Hannah to start talking!
Lily is so cute. She reminds me of my son when he was little and would tell us he needed a time out. To funny. Love the photo of her with the cool shades.
Hi Nikki,
I just love this post! Lily is such a special little girl. I just love her shining personality and how cute that she actually thanked you for giving her a "time out". Too funny. Thanks for always sharing so much of your joy with us. Sorry it has been so long since I came by and said hello. John and I are just settling into being parents and getting a routine down. It ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!
Love ya!
Jonni

We have been doing lots of time out lately. Unfortunately!
Lauren hits every once in a while too.

You are so blessed!
Sue
She ALWAYS makes me smile!!! What a honey!!!
"He doesn't talk"... too funny! Lily always makes me smile!
Too funny, your Lily is!!! Ah yes the time outs...S + A put themselves (and each other) in a time out all the time!!
So cute, Nikki! I'm sure that you aren't feeling her cuteness when she is misbehaving, but at least she recognizes when she nees a time out. Sigh...sometimes I wish I could yell at the cloouds to tell them to let the sun shine through.
That wins cutest picture of the day! So pricless
Made me smile :)
She is just beautiful
Oh so sweet. What a little treasure you have.
Keep writing down those sweet things -- she'll want to hear/read them when she's older.
