So, I finally got on the stick and scheduled Lily's first dentist appointment last week. She was excited to go and talked about it non-stop for days leading up to her appointment. THEN, the night before we were set to go - she decided that she really didn't want much sleep. She was up more times than I can count and insisted (at 5:30am) to go watch a video. She finally fell back asleep on the couch and I had to wake her up to get her ready to go. She was NOT thrilled about this. She was crying and whining and making her overly tired momma extremely upset. I told her I was going to have to cancel her dentist appointment if she couldn't pull herself together...this caused more crying..."I want to get my teef cweened!!!" So, off I go with one extremely agitated toddler. We pull up to the office and I am terrified that this first appointment is going to be a nightmare, but I suck it up, wipe the tears from her face and we walk in.
First thing Lily sees is a fish tank and she goes running up to it and begins squealing "Momma, wook, dere's fishies and seaweed and wocks... where are da seashells? Can I have some fish food?" (Insert big sigh of relief from me at that point) The appointment could not have gone any more smoothly. They told her if she was a good patient she would get a special treat, to which she replied, "Whatcha got?" The nurse complimented Lily on her bow and asked if she could wear it. Lily replied "No, you're too big". She let the nurse clean her teeth without any resistance. She sat still and I snapped pictures like a lunatic. When the doc came in he also complimented her on her pretty bow..."We bought deese bows in Tennessee!" (thanks again, Becky! They're obviously a big hit). I was just so proud of my girl. On the way out, she grabbed her loot (a pinwheel and a ring) and we were outta there. She kept saying "Momma, my teef are cween and sooo sparkawee!" On the car ride home she asked if we could get out the gween stwiped bwankie and have a picnic with sawami and chips. So, that is just what we did! (a porch picnic - our favorite kind). She inhaled her food and was left with orange fingers, from her veggie chips. I told her I was going to run inside and get her a napkin. She said no, so I asked her what she was going to clean her fingers on and she said "I'm gonna wick 'em"...
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, NO CAVITIES

Sorry about the lack of sleep, sweetie. It's so cool that she was so very excited about the dentist. As a rabid anti-dentite, I am going to have to work on a positive attitude when we bring our daughter to the dentist. ;)
She is such a big girl! Hope she gets a lot of sleep tonight!
Even on no sleep she is a trooper....perhaps she can teach us how to surive on no sleep!
This little munchkin has stolen my heart.
Good job - no cavities :) She is just so precious - I always leave your blog with a smile. I really needed one tonight - thanks :)
what a big girl she is...how cool that she did so good, and with the intro i was expecting trouble, but not from our big girl, no way!!!
Way to go Lily!! Love the pictures, and she looks wonderful in the pink and white with the matching bow! We will have to show our Lily the pictures to get her inspired:)
Mary
What a big girl you have there! Sophia's got her 1st appointment scheduled just after her big brother's cleaning, so that should help!
I hope you both got a nap. I am soooo impressed with her at the dentist. What a big girl she is. Congrats on the no cavities and sparkly teeth...
Hope she sleeps well for you tonight. What a brave girl she was. Nice to see that sparkly smile.
good girl lil !!!! everything is an adventure these days ... she looks pretty perky for not having much sleep ... how is mama hanging ??
Time for a nap now, huh? I'm glad Lily switched gears when she got to the dentist. S.G. has the same temperment. We are learning how to redirect her when she gets in those "moods." Hey, congrats on no cavities. S.G. had two and had to get them both crowned.
What a big, brave girl! My kids LOVE the dentist too....that's just how to keep 'em! :-)
Great job Lily! Hannah's dentist just called today and she is due for a check-up -- I better get on that.
How fun! She must have super excited about the dentist! I love the picnic. I have my own memories as a kid eating lunch on the floor with my mom!
Awh what a big girl! She is so darn cute and so brave. Hang in there with the sleepless nights. I feel your pain and can so relate.
Oh how I hate the dentist! It's so great that she is having good dental experiences early on. I'm getting the picture that your girl loves every single thing about life!
