Oops! I blinked...

And looked what happened! Lily went from a babbling baby who could hardly sit up on her own, to an inquisitive and feisty "big girl" who is attempting to do most everything on her own! I took the first picture in April of 2005, in China. I took the second picture the other morning while Lily was watching TV and enjoying a cup of joe. This morning we went to Lily's school to drop off her paperwork, and got to see her classroom (where she will be in less than ONE MONTH)...I had to fight back the tears. I am so excited for her this year - she will learn so much, and I know she'll do great, but my baby is growing up so fast I can hardly catch my breath!

I remember wondering what her voice would sound like when she finally started talking...and now she chatters almost non-stop! And, the questions! Oh my! They come with hardly a breath to seperate them sometimes. But, in her own words: "I ask a wot of questions. Dat's how I learn, cuz I'm four." And, now when I don't have an answer for her she'll say "maybe we should go get a book." Yep, we'll be getting LOTS of books around here, I'm guessing.
Lily: "Dad, what is die?"
Dad: "When you're not alive anymore"
Lily: "What is not alive?"
Dad: "Well, when a bug is flying around, it's alive. But, what happens when it lands and somebody steps on it?"
Lily: "It dies."
Dad: "Exactly."
Lily: "Then the bug goes to heaven?"
Dad: "OK, sure."
Lily: "How does the bug get to heaven when it can't fly?"
-One of my favorite questions from her: If God made everyone, then who made God? Did He make Himself?
-As she was eating MacNCheese in her "fancy dwess" the other day, she spilled some and quickly asks me "Mom, is this dwess washable!?"
I love that she is filled with wonder - and that she is eager to ask questions and learn. I am enjoying age 4 and knowing that everyday brings with it something new...but she will always be my baby.

I am always kind of nostalgic at this time of the year. Maƫlle started school on Friday and I can't believe it's her second year already. She was such a baby last year on her first day compare to this year...
Her favourite book right now is no more a princess book but a small encyclopedia, but answers bring more and more questions, sigh!
They grow so fast but yes, they are still our babies no matter what.

I like Jay's example of a bug but then...How DOES it get to Heaven when it can't fly anymore?? Well, how DOES it, WELL, WELL???

Lily is so cute! It is so fun that you document so much of what she says. You are going to be so thankful someday when you look back! Enjoy all the questions of wonder and innocence!

Awww...Nikki! Time goes by sooo quickly, doesn't it? We really have to stop blinking!

I love that picture of Lily sitting with her legs crossed and enjoying her drink!!

Ella tells me often these days what a big girl she is. I always tell her that no matter how big she gets...she will always be my baby. To that I get...."I am NOT
a baby!" lol!

Have a wonderful evening, my friend!

Hey...when we win that lottery and quit our jobs, we won't have to be up this late at night. hee hee!!

I am feeling a little blue about the whole school thing this year.
Where did the time go, it makes my head spin...
I love the innocence of a 4 yr old, it leaves me grinning when I read your sweet posts.

She is so cute. They do grow up so fast. My little boy is 5 and it just seems like yesterday I was bringing him home. You want them to grow and become all that God has created them for but you can't help missing those baby days. I am so glad we met each other.

Oh my goodness, how they grow. I'm going through the same thing with S.G. starting kindergarten. And the questions. Nonstop. I love to "hear" how Lily talks. So cute.

I know exactly how you feel Nikki! I've been so emotional with Hannah starting preschool in a couple weeks. I'm so excited for her but a little sad for me. (Okay, alot sad for me). You're so right though....she'll always be your baby! :)

We must cherish every moment for sure! We too are loving this "4" stage! Never a dull moment with all of he questions! :) Have a great week Nikki!

That's one smart little girl you got there Nikki. She asks some pretty good questions. I know what you mean about them growing before your eyes. She is an amazing young lady.
