The last hurdle

Lily has made huge strides in the last year. She goes into "kids' church" without crying for us (for 2 weeks in a row now). She is potty trained. She is friendly to friends and strangers alike. She enjoys going to the doctor's office. She swims like a fish (with her lifejacket, that is). Temper tantrums are no longer a weekly occurance. She behaves more and more like a "big girl" everyday. HOWEVER, when it comes to bedtime...she still wants to sleep in our bed. Her beautiful room that we waited soooo long for her to occupy is STILL unoccupied. My mom says this is our "last hurdle". And I believe it is -- for now, anyway.
We have gotten her to fall asleep without me lying next to her, just recently. This is a huge step for us. The rest is a work in progress. I'm not going to lie, though. I still really enjoy snuggling with my little angel at night. She sleeps well...we all do...and look how sweet she is! (Now, if we could just do something about her stinky gas. PU!)

It is all about baby steps and sweet Lily is getting there. Snuggle with her as long as you can. At least you can all sleep well together.

well if everyone is happy with the arangement, why change it yet?
Snuggles rock!
Though this is coming from me, someone who does not co-sleep. Only snuggles in the morning.

I remember going through this with Mallory. I was like you though, I missed snuggling with her in her bed. She is a big girl now and does pretty good at bedtime. However, there are many nights I want to just go in there and sleep with her. Her room is so pretty and fun and her bed is oh so cozy. :)
Oh, I love Lily's room. Where did you get the pillow that looks like an asian top/dress? You must tell me. I need one for my next daughter's room.

Adele, that pillow was a gift, but I'm pretty sure my friend purchased it at TJ MAXX...I love it too.

Wow! Those are some pretty huge hurdles that you have all jumped right over. :)
She will move to her own room eventually and will find her own sense of security when she is ready. The fact that she is able to fall asleep without you with her is an incredible feat in and of itself! Enjoy your cuddle time with her. :)

I must admit my daughter sleeps with us to. It started when she was about 6 months old due to ear infections and nursing. Now she is attached to playing with my hair before she falls a sleep. Soon enough they will be sleeping in their own room and we will be missing those snuggle nights. Enjoy it because it goes by much to quickly. My son is now 6 and he asks to sleep in his own bed.

You made me laugh! Enjoy your snuggles.
Your post reminded me of a country song called
"Let them be little" by Billy Dean! You should check out the lyrics

Yes these girls are growing too fast and every day sees a new step. The bed one will come too, soon.
Maƫlle comes in our bed at bed time for stories and kisses and in the morning for snuggles. I am too selfish regarding my bed, I need my space (and my hubby!).
But maybe it will be all different with number 2.

Lily's room is adorable. I love the Madarin dress pillow! So cute.

Reading all of the accomplishiments she conquered this years made me think that being a kid isn't really as easy as we remember. Potty training, keeping control of tempers, and swimming lessons are tough! Not to mention liking the doctor. Some adults still haven't mastered some of those. Yeah for Lily!

Nikki,
Have you tried putting your bedding on her bed?? Maybe that would make her more comfortable in her own room. Just a thought.

Look at that gorgeous room! I agree with Beth....baby steps.....it will happen one day, mom. If she's still sleeping in your bed when she's 20, you have a problem....:-)

She will get there in time. Trust me, the day will come when she is more independent than you would like. Her room is darling. Eli has stinky gas too. We just have cute little stinkers!

well we can't have you bragging about all your ducks in a row ;o)
It would make us all look bad!
We all need something to strike up sympathy for readers?
You're way ahead of crowd, so I'm sure sleeping alone will come soon enough (when you're ready)

What a gorgeous room - yes, I agree with your mom - your last BIG HURDLE - but you'll get it - and hey, Chloe is a gas machine too!?!?!?!?? What is up with that?!?!?

Our "next" hurdle is being able to "drop off" Hannah at preschool. Should be interesting! Glad to see Lily is jumping over lots of hurdles. :)

Laura said...

That is our next hurdle too... we actually just ordered a "princess bed" in hopes that she'll love it more than Mama's bed. I don't see it working though...

Anne Marie said...

Talk about progress! I am so impressed! But yes, if it's working for everyone, then I can't see what the harm is for now (other than Mommy and Daddy probably like to be alone sometimes). Nobody sleeps in Mommy and Daddy's bed when they're 14, so the day will come when it's just a natural progression!

It sounds like she is doing great. I, too, have one of those "unused" nurseries. :) It's hard to move them into their room- I hate to have my daughter cry herself to sleep. I figure that Lily will sleep in her room when she is ready as will my Ava.
